The Beginning

The Beginning

Oh, where to start?

I was 28 years old, and my world literally did a 180 in the blink of an eye... well not really, I had caused everything to happen the way it did. And honestly, I wouldn't change it for anything, well maybe if anything I would have done it sooner.

I had just moved out of my husbands (now ex-husbands) house and in with a friend. My ex and I were employed by the same company, and I chose to leave that job because he worked, they're prior to me even knowing him. So that is exactly what I did, I knew I needed to find a job that I would enjoy doing in order to truly be happy in life.

Baking and crocheting were my two favorite hobbies and let's face it, I did not want to work at a yarn or craft store. So, I applied at our local bakery supply store. It wasn't even two weeks and I had landed the job. It was great, I could talk about everything I enjoyed and teach others what I knew and was able to learn so much from these wonderful people I know now worked with. They were kind and encouraging and made me feel at home and happy.

At this time all I did was bake and decorate simple birthday cakes and I thought I truly enjoyed it. I would bake some other things here and there but nothing too fancy. In all of this learning that I was doing there, the company offered classes to the public and as an employee we were given the opportunity to attend as well. Everyone kept telling me that I should learn how to make decorated sugar cookies, but I kept saying no due to the amount of cake decorating supplies I already had at home. Then one of my co-workers (who is now a great friend of mine) suggested that I at least take the class so that I could learn enough to be able to help customers. So, I agreed, and the rest is history!

Not!!

But kind of... I took the class; I was pretty good at it. I had so much fun and was not stressed at all (unlike when I would make cakes). I kept practicing over the next few weeks and within the next two months I had sold any cake decorating supplies I didn't think I would need (except for things to make family cakes) and started purchasing the cookie decorating basics.

It's now been 5 years since I started, and it's been a wild ride! Come back soon and I'll tell you all about it!

Til next time, Happy Baking!

Becky
